Heartbreaking Update on UPS Crash: Death Toll Climbs to 13

The total count of fatalities from the freight aircraft which caught fire and crashed has now climbed to 13, as confirmed by recent announcements.

City Leader's Announcement

While en route to the Teamsters’ memorial service, I received word of a thirteenth victim that lost their life as a consequence of the UPS flight 2976 accident,” wrote the municipal leader in a public communication. “My heart is with the loved ones, associates and peers of all who were lost in this week’s disaster. We will get through this together.”

Victims Identified

An announcement from the company named the flight crew on board the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 as Captain Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.

“Our thoughts are extended to each employee who has been impacted and all in our community region – supporting you and ensuring you get the support and assistance you need is our focus,” the firm’s statement stated.

Investigation Details

Government investigators announced that the UPS cargo plane’s left wing caught fire and an power plant separated just after takeoff from the Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport, leading to the plane to crash and burst into a blaze.

The National Transportation Safety Board stated it is probing the aircraft’s maintenance history, which was in the state for repairs weeks ahead of the accident.

Aviation data indicated the aircraft was on the ground in the Texas city from early September to 18 October.

“We are cognizant that this aircraft was located in the facility,” said an investigator on later, without a precise period. “We will look at all elements of maintenance that was performed, from the Texas time, right up to the time of the trip.”

Retrieval of Vital Components

The cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder were recovered, and the engine was located on the tarmac.

The units – called flight recorders – were built to survive accident forces and severe fire from blazes, and they appeared to be undamaged when found among the crash debris. Authorities plan on analyzing data from the recorders.

Jet’s concluding flight details displayed an altitude of 475 ft and a velocity of 210 mph before the accident.

Maintenance Background

Based on FAA records dated last month, a fracture on a structural piece inside the fuel container demanded fixes.

Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which stated it provides structural repairs for the carrier’s jet and manages a repair facility in that city, chose not to comment, but said it would assist completely when investigators approached it.

Operations Resume

Meanwhile, the hub activities restarted Wednesday night with its Next Day Air or night sort operation, spokesperson Jim Mayer confirmed. Each of the three runways at the airport were likewise open again.

The sorting center in this location is the company’s most significant. The center engages more than twenty thousand workers in the locality, processes three hundred aircraft each day and organizes in excess of 400,000 items per hour.

Public Reaction

A gathering was conducted on the late afternoon of that date by the local Teamsters Union, which represents workers at the aviation hub, the organization’s biggest freight center.

Teamsters Local 89, which represents UPS workers, started the memorial with a quiet tribute at the evening hour, the rough time of the incident before.

“This event was so unexpected, so unexpected,” the official addressed the group of 200. “No one had a moment to say goodbye to any of those who we have lost.”
