The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG to Date

The speculation around the recent awards show was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer featuring striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team could be building a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it pioneered the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—qualities that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities you can achieve if you're playing as a specific type of character with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, allowing players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be approached in a variety of manners, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

More to Come

It is precisely these elements that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can look forward to a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
